Why aren’t we making Money Online?
Why is it so difficult to make money on the internet? This difficulty is why most marketers give up, but it is easy to see just why we aren’t making the millions that we are promised.
When the concept of internet marketing started in the late 1990′s and early 2000′s, the few clever marketers who got in then coined it. They made big money easily, and as long as you had the technical know how the world was your oyster. It was not strange for 10 000 new websites to spring up overnight in those days. You could compare this to the Big Gold Rush in the 1800′s. Only the first few people who got in found the gold and the rest died trying.
Obviously with more and more marketers jumping in, the market got saturated and this is where the big search engines like Google and Yahoo had to start making a few rules and regulations. By 2004, Google had set the standards as regards to traffic regulation and the onset of Adwords. This of course made it a bit harder for internet marketers to make the same kind of money, but they tolled on and in the end there was consolidation where big companies where formed. A big company with big money has lots of advertising bucks and does much better than the average one man business.
If you look around you at history, most smaller markets have merged to make bigger companies. The many smaller motor building sites became one or two big conglomerates and even all the smaller phone companies merged into a few big ones, and they couldn’t survive on their own.
As the years went on though, new inventions came out. Look at Facebook and Twitter and what a success they have been. Internet marketing is a continuous cycle of new inventions and everyone looking for the next best thing, but what we have to accept now is that we are never going to make three figures in a day, a week or even three months. In today’s world this is just unrealistic, and if you see any ads that tell you that you can, they are lying to you to get you to buy into their product.
By the year 2012 it is estimated that 80 – 85% of the worlds traffic will be visiting the top 10 websites, so where does that leave us? We have to fight for the scraps.
In this ever changing world, it is useless even to follow the advice of a two year old Ebook. If you have a serious online business, you need to get your hands on the latest information that you possibly can, as old information can end up just wasting your time and hurting your business.
While change is scary, it is actually a good thing. Remember this saying ‘wealth is never destroyed, it is only transferred.’ Look at how many millionaires rose out of the great depression for example. The trick is knowing where to place yourself in today’s ever changing world.
These are just some of the challenges we are going to have to face up to in the next year. 1. Cheap and Easy Traffic will become harder and harder to get. 2. You are going to have to compete against the Walmarts of the internet. 3. The death of eCommerce.
If your mindset is right, and you are determined and not afraid to put some elbow grease in, then you will make it in these trying times. The trick is to stay focused and to try and keep up with the latest technology. Don’t be tempted to buy old and out dated courses, and always do your research on Google or Yahoo before making any costly mistakes.
