Why WordPress

WordPress Website - Article Marketing

It could be a great question: “Why WordPress?”… but my intention is to show in this article the reasons for which WordPress was my best choice as a web site or blog, my decision. But more than just a personal option… I think it is better to insert here a proved fact directly from the WordPress.com Platform:

“You’d be surprised who’s blogging on WordPress.com. We host CNN’s Political Ticker; Dow Jones’ AllThingsD; NFL; Time Inc’s The Page; People Magazine’s Style Watch; famous bloggers like Mark Cuban, John Scalzi, and Joy Behar; corporate blogs for Flickr and KROQ; and many more.

One more thing, the statistics shown “over 60 million people have chosen WordPress to power the place on the web they already call it: ‘home’…”. WordPress – of which core software is built by hundreds of community volunteers – is both: FREE and PRICELESS in the same time! It is an Open Source Project, thing than means there are hundreds of people all over the world working on it – a lot more than the most commercial platforms…

Google as it is well known from all statistics is the biggest Search Engine of the world. At a recent WordPress conference Word Camp -  the biggest national WordPress Convention, was held in San Francisco, and there in attendance were more than 700 bloggers from more than 30 countries all around the world -  Matt Cutts (the Google’s head of the web-spam team) presented one of the most exciting presentations on “why WordPress is the best blogging platform” (in terms of Search Engine Optimization – SEO). Cutts says: “WordPress is a ‘fantastic choice’ for SEO purposes”.

Matt Cutts: Straight from Google
SEO, What You Need to Know

He likes the way it handles canonical URLs and permalinks, sustained as WordPress automatically solves a ton of SEO issues, for being not just an amazing piece of software, but  a fantastic choice for an SEO-friendly platform too, that solves some 80-90% of mechanics of SEO. What other proof than that as Cutts himself uses WordPress on his blog at: Matt Cutts: Gadgets, Google, and SEO… Maybe Matt Cutts has not spoken in terms of the big Google, but his advices – made by a professional from the Google Team, a man who knows already the secret rules of that top of the Search Engines – are done in completely knowingly regarding the rules of the game…

Why WordPress – Well, to enter more in details… As a CMS (Content Management System) WordPress as FREE and Open Source, it has one of the most vibrant communities of developers of any other web software platform, really hundreds of community volunteers which have created already – at this time, when this article appear – 1,494 Free Themes for WordPress; 18,620 Free Plugins who can bring WordPress to almost anything you can imagine…

Even these statistical numbers can create inhibition, WordPress is easy to use and flexible in the same time. To say here about the “famous five minute install”, who take you for its first installation on a web host to less than one minute… WordPress is supported by almost all web hosting services, the most important of these having an integrated “Quick Install” option, who make the things easy even for a child… – my kindly web hosting recommendation, verified in years of practice is HostGator – who offer Shared, Reseller, VPS and Dedicated server packages for both: beginners and professionals alike, each of these packages with 24/7/365 support, a 99.9% uptime guarantee, and a 45-day money-back guarantee! – To see the entire offer, follow the link to see it directly on HostGator website.

To enter a bit more in details, WordPress is thought to make sure every bit of WordPress generated code is in full compliance with the standards of the W3C. It have the latest blogging technology available – like Trackbacks – and more, take it a step further – such it would be the Ping-back option – . Think a bit about how it could be for a novice or a beginner user to build a sitemap for his web site or blog, do not say more about RSS Feeds, video or image sitemap, how to set canonical links or working tools like to edit HTML code, to insert an image or a video in a post or a web page… Yes, a web page, because WordPress is much more than just a blogging platform, it have the both options: posts – with canonical structure links; and pages – which could have independent content!

Why WordPress - The complete list of Features you can see here, but I want to stress the importance of just a few…

Easy installation and upgrades — “Installing WordPress and upgrading from previous versions and other software is indeed a piece of cake” for any level of an user…

WordPress Links — “Links allow you to create, maintain, and update any number of blogrolls through your administration interface, that is much faster than calling an external blogroll manager”…

WordPress Themes — Undoubtedly these Themes are one of the main attraction to WordPress and certainly the reason for what so many people use it over any other CMS…

Why WordPress

XML-RPC interface — “WordPress currently supports an extended version of the Blogger API, MetaWeblog API, and it seems finally the MovableType API”…

Workflow — You can have in the near future users that can only post drafts, they do not have the right to publish to the front page…

Typographical niceties – WordPress “uses a Texturize engine tool to intelligently convert plain ASCII into typographically correct XHTML entities. This thing includes quotes, apostrophes, ellipses, em and en dashes, multiplication symbols, and ampersands and more”…

Article Submitter Software

Intelligent text formatting — If you have worked in the past with systems that convert new lines to line breaks, before you know why they have a bad name: if you have dealt with any sort of HTML that fail it, by putting tags after every new line indiscriminately, breaking your formatting and validation – from now you have to forget all those… WordPress intelligently avoids places where you already have breaks and block-level HTML tags – so you can leave it on without worrying about it breaking your code…

Multiple authors — “WordPress’ highly advanced user system allows up to 10 levels of users, with different levels having different (and configurable) privileges with regard to publishing, editing, options, and other users”…

Spam protection — “Out of the box WordPress comes with very robust tools such as an integrated blacklist and open proxy checker to manage and eliminate comment spam on your blog, and there is also a rich array of plugins that can take this functionality a step further”…

Full user registration — “WordPress has a built-in user registration system that (if you choose) can allow people to register and maintain profiles and leave authenticated comments on your blog”…

Cross-blog communication tools— “WordPress fully supports both the Trackback and Pingback standards, and it are committed to supporting future standards as they develop”, comments (users can leave their comments in individual posts, but the same through Trackback or Pingback directly on their web site)  and bookmarklets (“cross-browser bookmarklets make it easy to publish to your blog or add links to your blogroll with a minimum of effort”)...

Still Why WordPress… A blog in WordPress is indeed a great choice, but don’t forget – by using the right settings. There are lots of Themes and Plugins, but which ones are the best for your needs?!… In the same time WordPress Software offer a default setting, being thought for a general purpose, for a common user with less or without any knowledge in blogging, html code editing, permalinks or other SEO settings… If you want to gain as most from your blog you will have to make your personal settings on your admin panel area.

In “SEO Tips of Common Sense…” you will find anything you need to know about the link structure, basic and always valid SEO settings and an other important main setting about many bloggers or even webmasters still don’t know… how can affect you the links from partners and what you can do to avoid penalties from the top search engines… a thing about many other  have no idea what could made wrong, because they haven’t actually changed anything on their site!… If you want results, you have to learn, if you want great results, you have to learn The Fine Art of Blogging

WordPress offer for free a great tool: you build a new post and when you publish it, the WordPress Software send pings by defaults to other services. It is Great indeed. On the Internet you can find tons of pinging services lists like that of WordPress Ping List or that of DailyBlog List of Ping Services. But here is a risque: too many pings sent in a short time means SPAM and you will obtain exactly the contrary: a red flag from the big search engines, to be banned by the ping services… What solution you can find? A plugin who sending pings only regular intervals widely accepted. A good example: MaxBlogPress Ping Optimizer!

Spin Rewriter

WordPress provides extensive functionality and often just a little customization is necessary from your part to adapt that software for your unique purpose. Many of the WordPress Features are considered core already (comments, Trackbacks, Pingbacks, RSS feeds, revisions etc.) and relies on a dedicated community of enthusiasts – like developers – to undertake significant coding efforts, to provide each functionality you will need. As a specific indication – comments could help your blog growing, but in the same time these are the most common source of spam. When the spam sources amplifies their attacks, your life as a blog admin can become a nightmare.

It is hard to fight alone day by day with dozens, often hundreds of spam comments sent through automatic software… You can see this in many forums – it is the hard way of learning “how to blog”… Two already common plugins – Akismet and Bad Behavior – shall be two basic elements in a WordPress blog. At least one of the SEO plugins - All in One SEO Pack, SEO Ultimate or WordPress SEO – will optimize your posts or articles in better ways for the big search engines, ensuring a faster and better position in SERP’s – the index and the page results of the search engines.

A must have plugin is one of those who insert social media icons or other possibilities for anyone to share your published content in Social Networks, to promote or to enhance your social profile, or your profile page of your blog. As a small example: Really simple Facebook Twitter share buttons could by one of dozens of social plugins for WordPress. Do not forget to protect your work, a plugin like would be WP Security Scan will help you to fight with lots of possibilities built by hackers. And one to solve you a problem with a click – creating a sitemap (Google XML Sitemap)… If you think it is too less – try to find information and then to build yourself a sitemap or more, a RSS Feed for any web site you want…

As conclusionWhy WordPress – is the choice of more than 60 millions of people, powers nearly a quarter of the new sites launched today, its CMS is a choice for over 2/3 of the top million sites worldwide, a fact that make it for sure the most popular blog platform on the web …and one more thing: it is trusted by content publishers (both: large and small) – including CNN and the NY Times… After 8 years of proven history, you know now that you are getting the best software from the Planet for blogging or any other online business you will want to build on Internet. What could it be the reason for… Why Not WordPress?!
